I have spent most of my career working with non-profit organizations, getting their stories out in to the wide world and helping them manage the business side of their endeavours.
In 1992, I co-founded STAF, a non-profit service organization for theatre companies and independent artists, and spent the next 13 years helping hundreds of artists with grant writing, fundraising, publicity, financial management, strategic planning, administration, and Board and audience development. I also worked with a number of companies across the country on organizational reviews, and became well-known for creating action plans that were sensible and achievable within the organizations’ resources.
Over my career, I have written and/or edited over 400 funding proposals, worked on dozens of promotion campaigns, and completed a few decades’ worth of bookkeeping and financial reports for non-profits. I have also researched and written study guides, house program content, bios, and governance guides for boards.
My particular interests are culture and heritage, environmental issues, support for First Nations, social justice, and youth.
